AussieBeach is a
GIS based, web enabled beach safety, low to medium level
infrastructure and tourism information resource. AussieBeach
is a series of smart maps that provide information to the
beach going public. These maps include information that
pertains to safety issues, resources and hazards that are
known and that may present themselves to the public during a
visit to the beach or coast, such as rips, strong currents,
high surf, dangerous rocks, Australian Beach Safety &
Management Program (ABSAMP) information, surf lifesaving
clubs, first aid locations, etc. The maps will include
features such as roads, pathways, recreation areas, toilets,
change rooms, cooking facilities, parking, amenities, etc.
The maps will also display tourism resources such as
attractions, accommodation, operators and services.
At the same time a comprehensive geographical information
base will develop which will enable the analysis,
interrogation and the development of scenarios ("what if")
via geographical enquiries. Ultimately it is intended that
this system will compliment emergency response services with
the most effective ingress and egress routes to and from
rescues.
AussieBeach has the potential to provide tourists with an
all round information resource by allowing them to research
a destinations characteristics, resources and attractions
via the internet. |
